Photo Finish Every Time at the Pepsi Center
February 13, 2009
The Pepsi Center was again the scene of the Monster Jam when the Advance Auto Parts Wheelie competition provided great thrills for monster trucks nuts. Grave Digger blew Blue Thunder away when he got his truck into a wild wheelie that drove the crowd mad. Digger earned 28 points and took the wheelie crown. The trucks were back-weighted and this provided the perfect lift, which trucks like El Toro Loco and Donkey Kong scored thrived on, finshing with respectable points. But it was the number of photo finishes and action replays that wowed everyone at the Denver arena. This was real monster jam madness, with all drivers going all out to win. Every single race race was decided by several action replays. Donkey Kong beat Backwards Bob in the semi finals in a thrillfest we shan’t forget in a hurry, while Backwards Bob got the better of Monster Mutt in one of the opening riots.
Monster Jams in Denver
February 13, 2009
A huge Monster Jams crowd saw the awesome debut of Backwards Bob in Denver recently, and an all-star Monster Jam cast made it a Jam to remember. Among the attractions were Blue Thunder and Grave Digger trucks, as ever pulling some wild wheelies and embarking on a crazed race to the finish. Blue Thunder won the wheelie contest, a point ahead of Grave Digger, 24 to 23. Backward Bob scored a lowly 18 but his general performance was still enough to amaze the assembled Colorado crowd.
Blue Thunder also won the racing segment, once more keeping Grave Digger out and forcing him into second place. Backwards Bob was roundly beaten by Blue Thunder in the first round and Donkey Kong fell to Thunder in a closely raced semi-final. Grave Digger fought a thrilling race with El Toro – a photo finish, no less.
All the Monster Jammers were in fine form for the Freestyle segment, with Blue Thunder looking like a winner, until Donkey Kong steamed in and took first place. Blue Thunder is definitely a truck to watch in the coming months, though, and he proved his pedigree in this fantastic Denver Monster Jam. El Toro eventually won the Freestyle outright when he beat Donkey Kong by one point amid some utterly insane monster jam action; flying like a demon, he impressed the judges and easily impressed the crowd. The Grave Digger truck lost its rear end on its second run and had to be happy wth 21 points. All in all it was a great debut for Backwards Bob, and the Denver crowd will surely welcome him back next time around.
